Volunteer for the biggest documentary film festival in Finland!
DocPoint – Helsinki Documentary Film Festival will take place on 3.–8.2.2026. The festival aims to provide programming full of ambitious documentaries, both content-wise and style-wise. In 2026 we will have approximately 100 long and short documentaries shown across Helsinki.

BENEFITS FOR VOLUNTEERS
We hope that the volunteers can commit to 20 hours. Shifts are approx. 4–6 hours long each. However, we warmly welcome you to apply even if you want to try volunteering for 1 shift only.
Volunteers who take 20 hours will get a festival pass that grants access to all the screenings that have room, and a food voucher per 5 hours of volunteer work. Work hours will be summed, and vouchers will be given based on the total number of hours. If you take less than 20 hours, you will be given complimentary festival tickets instead of the festival pass.
After the festival, we will invite all the volunteers to an amazing wrap-up party. A volunteer work testimonial will be provided for all those who want it.
Ushers and Theater Supervisors
Ushers work under the guidance of the theater supervisors. Ushers check tickets, provide customer service, and take care of the tidiness of the venues. If you like, you get to try introducing films to the audience! Ushering is a particularly nice experience for new volunteers looking to get to know film festivals.
Theater supervisors support and instruct the ushers while making sure that everything runs smoothly and according to the schedule. The theater supervisor position is more independent and has more responsibilities, so we appreciate previous experience in film festivals or f.e.x. working at a cinema. Theater supervisors will be given an additional benefit of 4 complimentary tickets.
Customer service
We provide customer service at two different locations, Bio Rex Lasipalatsi (festival center) and Kinopalatsi. The customer service team provides general information about the festival, tickets, and screenings to festival goers, festival volunteers, and specific services for accredited guests (e.g. ticket pick-ups). They also sell tickets and merchandise. In Bio Rex Lasipalatsi, the team also accredits other volunteers to the festival.
Ticket sales coordinator supports and helps the volunteers throughout the festival. Customer service team members will be given an additional benefit of 4 complimentary tickets.
In your application, let us know if you are familiar with the Eventio ticketing system. Please notice that Eventio is in Finnish and that’s why this task requires a good understanding of Finnish.
Distribution
The distribution team delivers festival posters and programme leaflets prior to the festival according to a distribution plan. Poster distribution is mainly done by foot or by public transportation, whereas programme leaflets will be distributed with the assistance of volunteer drivers. The work will be done during weekday mornings and afternoons but it is possible to do distribution independently at other times as well. Remember to dress according to the weather.
Drivers / Transportation
Drivers deliver supplies and materials and support the event team and the host team during the festival as needed. In addition, the drivers may participate in the programme leaflet distribution and building the festival center before the festival dates. A valid driver’s license is required. The festival provides the car.
Events Team
The events team helps build and run the various side events during the festival, such as talks and special screenings. The DocPoint staff works closely with the team. The position consists of various supporting tasks, such as decorating, welcoming guests, and running errands. The work is suitable for those interested in event management and production.
Photographers and Videographers
Volunteer photographers and videographers capture and collect memories by taking still photos, guest portraits, and video clips. The team is coordinated by the photography coordinator but the communications team may also commission material. You are required to have the necessary equipment and editing software to be able to volunteer at the position. Please add a link to your portfolio in your application. The team members will be given an additional benefit of 4 complimentary tickets as compensation for using their own equipment.
Communications and Social Media
The communications team produces content mainly in Finnish for the festival’s website and social media channels. Hence, the task requires fluent written Finnish. If you especially enjoy producing social media content, you can link your social media accounts for us as a portfolio, f.ex. Instagram account. The communications team works together with the communications manager and the communications coordinator at the festival office during the festival week but there are some writing tasks that can be done remotely before the festival as well.
Translators
Translators are an essential part of the communications team. Translators begin their work in December prior to the festival. Translators translate f.ex. guest introductions and press releases from Finnish to English. Translations are mostly done remotely. The task requires prior experience in translating, and fluency in Finnish. Tell us more about your experience when applying.
Power Team
The power team is mainly active during the festival week but there are some shifts available before the festival as well. The team supports other teams and provides help wherever it is the most needed. The tasks are mostly ad hoc, meaning that every shift is different! The tasks may include office work, decoration, furnishing, building the festival center, delivering items, or filling in for other volunteers. The power team is a perfect choice for those who enjoy a sense of adventure – at this position you get to experience DocPoint from various angles and learn more about festival production while meeting a lot of new people.
Hosts
An experienced host team provides help and support for the invited international film maker guests. Hosts provide assistance during guests’ visit to Finland – from the moment they land to their departure. We appreciate good knowledge of Helsinki, speaking different languages, previous experiences in hosting, and an interest in the film industry. Various backgrounds provide useful skills for this task, so tell us more about yourself in the application. It is not necessary to know Finnish. Hosts will be compensated with 4 complimentary tickets in addition to the festival pass.
